I haven't yet seen this online and thought it would be useful to some.

Using some extra long female headers you can make an 'adapter' for the ESP-01 in just a few minutes without having to bring out the soldering iron. No pictures of the actual process, but what I did was cut 2 strips of 4 and glue their backs together, then with some pliers bend the pins a bit to fit onto the breadboard.
